The first beer ever to coin the name barleywine was Bass No. 1 Ale released in 1870. Saturday, February 3 we give nod to this distinctive style with the release of five beers, four wood-aged and our first English-Style version.

The Old Order is our small membership group at Solemn Oath for those that want guaranteed and advanced access to our most limited beers coming out of barrels. You can learn more about that by checking out our website, memberships for the 2018 rendition will close on Friday.

We at Solemn Oath are entering 2018 with a lot of new things to bring to you. Recent tank additions have freed up ability to make more frequent and innovative offerings, our barrel program volume and variety continues to grow as you'll see right out of the gate with the first quarter release for The Old Order in February, and we are firing out cans like never before.

Within the midst of that chaos, certain beers demand that they return with a quality you require and a demand worthy of fighting their way through a market hell bent on new new new. We are thrilled to bring you this year's rendition of Most Important Beverage of the Day and Beverage of Champions (x2).

We have no idea where this will lead us, but we have a definite feeling it will be a place both wonderful and strange.

On Friday, December 22 at 4PM we'll be releasing Wonderful & Strange, a brand new double dry-hopped New England style IPA in four-pack 16oz. cans. Distinct from both Strange Old Woods and Call It What You Want before it, Wonderful & Strange is danker than those  tasty A-Frame waves Jeff Spicoli based his life around. Mosaic meets Mandarina Bavaria in a complex amalgamation of the ultimate sploof-inspired sticky take on the style of IPA rooted in the haze of the original Thirteen Colonies.

At Solemn Oath we have always prided ourselves on versatility and ongoing innovation in the beers we present to you. Over the last few years as we've grown nearly 200% in capacity we have battled with ourselves to keep kicking out what we feel is a proper variety of beer options. This is no more.

As a growing brewery with finite tank space and orders to fill we found ourselves driving deep with what has become our core. Lü, our award-winning beer {Kolsch} and a rocket ship here in Chicagoland by all commercial standards, began to edge itself into more and more tanks. The continued development of our IPA, Snaggletooth Bandana, combined with other beers that have continued to grow have left us both proud and wanting more. We have responded these last few months by investing in more tanks, more people, and more equipment, and we intend to keep in line our ability to make world-class beers at a rate and intensity that matches our passion for what we do.

This Friday, December 15 we will releasing Call It What You Want, a Motueka, Citra, and Centennial New England-Style IPA. Dry hopped twice, proper haze, a fuller mouth feel, and hops brimming with tropical and citrus fruit tones.

We're bringing you a lemon, lime, and mango focus that may give the spontaneous sensation of sand in your shoes.

The Old Order is a revered group of SOB supporters who seek established access to the most limited beers that we have to offer. Throughout the year we've been putting batches away in wood for the 2018 rendition and we're very excited to share our third year with you.

2018 is an important year for us at Solemn Oath and we have a lot of exciting projects going. This past year we've added capacity, introduced 16oz tall boys for the first time, and expanded our Taproom footprint. If you missed the announcement, we recently added Andrew Mason as our new director of brewery operations. In 2017 The Old Order was presented with a FoBAB-award winner, handed bottles of bourbon barrel-aged beers galore, and provided limited access to draft-only variants of every release. Again in 2017, we are proud to say more than 90% of our wood-aged beer reached the hands of members of The Old Order and their invited guests.
